SALES MISSES TOP 3 IN AUSTRALIAN OPEN CHESS

FILIPINO Fide Master Jesse Noel Sales bowed to Aussie Jason Hu in the eleventh and final round and failed in his bid to land in the top 3 in the just concluded 2009 Australian Open Chess Championships at the Manly- Rugby Leagues Club in Sydney, Australia over the weekend.
Sales, who is fresh from winning the 2009 Australian Open Chess “Lightning Championship” last January 6 settled over-all tenth placers after the tie break points was applied in the huge group of 7.0 pointers that includes Tomek Rej, Max Illingworth, Kevin Sheldrick, David Lovejoy, Lars Kjoller Nilsson, Armen Ayvazyan and Memedalija Dizdarevic.
Hu, on the other hand finished in a tie for third to fifth placers with Mark Chapman and Eugene Schon who scored 8.0 points each.
IM Aleksander Wohl took the championships trophy over IM George Xie with a superior quotient of 65.5 points that the latter’s 63. The duo finished identical 9.0 points apiece after eleven games of play.
