RUBILEN AMIT FALTERS IN AMWAY WOMEN’S WORLD 9-BALL

RUBILEN “BINGKAY” AMIT, the reigning WPA Women’s World 10-ball champion cinderella run was halted yesterday after suffered her first loss against Yuan Chun- Lin of Chinese-Taipei (5-7) in the battle of undefeated players in the on-going 2010 Amway WPA Women’s World 9-Ball Open yesterday at the Core Pacific Living Mall Hotel in Taipei, Taiwan.
With this setback, the Cebuana native Amit, who is aiming to surpass her runner-up finish here four year’s ago dropped into a 2-1 win-loss card in Group E stage match while Yuan Chun- Lin raise her total 3-0 win-loss card.
Amit, playing under the banner of sportsman/ businessman Aristeo “Putch” Puyat, earlier beat Maureen Seto of Canada (7-1) and Kynthios Orfanidis of the Netherlands (7-4), respectively last Thursday while Yuan Chun- Lin defeated Orfanidis (7-4) and compatriot P.C. Lin (7-4), in order.
Christine “Ish” Caparras of Puyat Sports said that Amit last two remaining assignment against P. C. Lin and Corr.
“ Sana maipanalo ni Rubilen (Amit) ang nalalabi niyang laban para makapasok siya sa susunod na round,” said sportsman/ businessman Aristeo “Putch” Puyat, acknowledge RP billiards God Father.
Also with 2-1 win-loss card in Group E is WPA Women’s World no.1 Karen Corr of Ireland. Corr lost her opening match to P.C. Lin (6-7) but bounce back in contention by beating Seto (7-1) and Orfanidis (7-2).
Group stage is divided into 8 groups with 6 players in each group. The competition will first use a race-to-7 round-robin format in this US $20,000 top prize Asian Pocket Billiards Union (APBU) sanctioned-tournament.
The last 24 will employ the single elimination format in race-to-7 matches. The matches in the semi-finals will be race-to-9 while the final match will be race-to-11. Winner’s break format will be applied.
Other players who notch third straight wins in their respective group stage match were Chieh-Yu Chou of Chinese-Taipei (Group A), Hui Shan-Lai of Chinese-Taipei and You Ram Cha of Korea (Group B), Gerda Hofstatter of Austria (Group D) and Xiao Tin-Pan of China (Group F).
