RICHIE GARCIA NAMED PSC CHAIRMAN—GTK

RICHIE GARCIA will be the new chairman of the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) this was revealed yesterday by Philippine Amateur Track and Field Association (PATAFA) head Go Teng Kok.
On Thursday (July 8), Garcia will occupy the top post who vacated by former chairman and Manila congressman Harry Angping, an appointee of former president and newly-elected Pampanga congressman Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

“Si Richie (Garcia) na ang bagong chairman ng PSC,” said Go Teng Kok.

“Kahapon (Lunes) nag courtesy call ang grupo ni POC president Peping (Cojuangco) kay president Noynoy (Aquino) sa Malacanang at sa Huwebes ay pormal ng iaanunsiyo ang posisyon bilang chairman ng PSC si Richie,” added Go Teng Kok, a close ally of Cojuangco’s group who in the past had a tug-of-war to Angping who already gave his courtesy resignation before the inauguration of president Noynoy Aquino.
Swimmer Akiko Thompson retain its commissioner post and she will join the newly PSC commissioner member that includes Tennis boss Buddy Andrada and Cycling official Col. Jet Tamayo.
Cycling legal counsel lawyer Samuel Estimo and Billiards boss Ceferino “Perry” Mariano also confirmed Garcia’s PSC chairmanship post.

“Si Richie na nga ang PSC chairman at sa Huwebes ipapaalam.” Said Estimo, a former two-time Olympian chess member.
“Tama si Richie nga ang bagong PSC chairman. Yan ang sinabi ng mga kaibigan natin sa Malacanang,” said Mariano, founder of BMPAP.

PBA legend and senator Robert “Sonny” Jaworski who is the top contender in the said post after former PSC boss Phillip Ella Juico turned downed the said position after the latter’s wife (Margie Juico) will  head the Philippine Charity Sweepstake Office (PCSO).

“Sa huling pag-uusap nina Bobby (Jaworski) at Peping (Cojuangco) may mga kondisyon na nilatag si Bobby para tanggapin ang chairmanship ng PSC pero hindi sila nagkasundo ni Peping,” said Reli de Leon, confidante of Jaworksi.
