PSC RAPID CHESS BLAST OFF TOMORROW; GM TORRE, MAYOR BELMONTE TO GRACE CHESS

THE first Pineda-Santos-Camer three division rapid chess tournament unveils its opening ceremony tomorrow, Sunday, 11 am at the Ramon Magsaysay Cubao High School (RMCHS) at Edsa, Cubao, opposite Nepa Q-Mart.

Tournament registration start at nine o’clock in the morning (9 am). Registration fee is P300 for the non-master category while P200 each for the kiddie 14 year-old and below and womens division.

And no less than Asia’s First Grandmaster (GM) Eugene Torre, an RMCHS batch 68 alumni, will grace the opening ceremonies of the three division (kiddie 14 year-old and below, womens and non-master) tournament aimed to discover future world class chess player.

“Rain or shine, the chess tournament will go on,” said event coordinator Dr. Jenny Mayor, also the RP six-time executive champion.

Quezon City mayor Feliciano “Sonny” Belmonte, vice-mayor Herbert “Bistik” Bautista, fourth district congresswoman Nanette Castelo-Daza, councilor’s Bayani Hipol, Vincent Belmonte, Bong Suntay, Babes Malaya, Edcel Lagman, Dante de Guzman and Bernadette Hererra-Dy were also invited to attend the opening rites while local arbiter Gatz Luz, will lead the invocation.

Aside from trophies and medals, at stake a total of P17,500 cash prizes are up for grabs in the one-day event with the non-master champion pocketing P6,000 plus a new pair of shoes while P2,000 each for the winners in the kiddie 14 year-old and below, womens division.

Backed up by Sydney-based Angelito “Anji” Camer, Texas- based former two-time Olympian member WNM Cristina Santos and China-based Joel Pineda, in close cooperation with Filway Marketings Inc. CEO/President Hector “Chito” Tagaysay and Dickies Vice President Dody Arcaya and also supported by Cebuano sportsman Matias “Bombi” Aznar, Mayor Dental Clinic, Chess Library, Eureka Chess set General Manager Pacito Madrono, Marikina Chess Federation head Johnny “Joel” Gaudia, Meralco Chess Club, Barangay Alabang chairman Victor Ulanday, Dr. Alfred Paez, Dr. Bong Perez, CDC Holdings Inc., Ramon Magsaysay Cubao High School (RMCHS) chess club, g4 chess club, Multivitamins and Billiard Philippines.

Reigning RP 12 Under Champion Paulo Bersamina of Meralco Chess Club, the winner of the 1st Meralco Management Leadership Development Center Chess Cup last Sunday, is the early favorite in the kiddie event will supervised by International arbiter NM Erwin Carag, NM Rudy Ibanez and Raul Cruz of the host school.

Other early entries are Haince Patrick de Leon, Vincent Nasiad, Joshua and Vince Morte of Marist School Marikina, Jett and JV Cadawas-Marcos of Ateneo de Manila University, Sandro Gotuaco, Lucas, Noah and Liam Ramos of International School-Makati, Giovanni Mejia, Rhal Sol Cruz, Ralp Villaflor, Earl Cabugao, Nikko Dionisio, Luke and Dominique de Leon of La Salle Greenhills, Darryl Samantila and Jean Karen Enriquez of Adamson University.

All kiddie participants must bring their proof of age, like school ID and NSO birth certificate.
