PORTLAND, OREGON: FIL-AM VERA, MUNOZ SHINES IN UFC 102

ONCE again Filipino-American mixed martial arts (MMA) fighters Brandon Vera and Mark Muñoz held the Philippine Flag on Sunday (Saturday in US time) when they scored contrasting victories dubbed as UFC 102: Couture vs. Nogueira at the Rose Garden in Portland, Oregon.

Vera, known as “The Truth,” beat Krzysztof “The Polish Experiment” Soszynski via unanimous decision while Muñoz edged Nick Catone in three rounds via split decision.

The unanimous decision win over Soszynski is Vera’s second consecutive victory in the Octagon. He defeated Michael Patt by technical knockout last March in UFC 96: Jackson vs Jardine. Vera improves to 11-3 while Soszynski’s record falls to 19-10-1.

While Muñoz dubbed as “The Filipino Wrecking Machine” tallied 6-1 record while Catone now stands at 7-2. Muñoz suffered his first loss at the hands of Matt Hamill beat him by knockout in UFC 96.
