PHILIPPINE billiards is set to take another monumental this time in collegiate and high school level after the successful formed of Billiards Managers and Players Association of the Philippines (BMPAP).
The National Collegiate Billards Leaque (NCBL) will be the first of a kind in the country, and it will provide great opportunities, especially in uplifting the lives of the Filipino cue artists, who are known as the best in the sport.
“This is it,” said BMPAP head Ceferino “Perry” Mariano, one of the brain behind the concept. “This will signal the start of a new era in Philippine billiards, one that would benefit, first and foremost, the players.”
“With the help of our (NCBL) chairman Jonathan Sy and our (NCBL) president (Aurelio) Reli de Leon, we’re very confident that we could achieve that target. added Mariano.
” October ang start nito at kasado na ang lahat. Bali may senior (collegiate level) at may junior (high school level) category ito.” said Mariano, who heads the star-studded of Bugsy Promotions which are composed of Dennis Orcullo, Ronato Alcano, Roberto Gomez, Gandy Valle and Carlo Biado.
“This will make the sport truly a source of pride of the Filipinos. Nagkaka edad na din mga player natin at ito ang future ng RP billiards.” added NCBL president Aurelio “Reli” de Leon, a confidante of world boxing seven-division champion and Sarangani representative Manny Pacquiao, a billiards enthusiasts and long-time billiards supporter.
“The NCBL aims to discover future world class player ” added NCBL chairman Jonathan “Bacolod” Sy, benefactor of Lee Vann Corteza, Warren Kiamco, Ricky Zerna, Jech Limen and Panfilo Damuag of the rising Negros Billiards Stable (NBS).
Other co-founder of NCBL are Verna Mariano of Bugsy Promotions, Christine “Ish” Caparras of Puyat Sports and radio commentator and sportswriter Almario Marlon Bernardino Jr.
