MEJIA BAGS GOLD IN 10TH ASEAN AGE GROUP CHESS IN VIETNAM

The undefeated Mejia scored 8 out of nine points on account of seven wins and two draws, and two point ahead of three Vietnamese counterpart.
After posting sixth straight wins, she drew with WFM Daniel Ho of Indonesia in the 7th round and WCM Nguyen Ngoc Troy Trang of Vietnam in the 8th round then bested Pham Hong Puc of Vietnam in the 9th and final round.
National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) president Prospero “Butch” Pichay Jr. commented the success of Mejia.”Ms. Mejia has proven to her fellow Filipino that she can make a mark in youth chess and we are happy of his achievement,” he said.
Other Filipino medallist that includes Sheider Nebato (silver medal 6.5 points/9 Open 20 and under), Lennon Hart Salgados (silver medal 6.5 points/9 Open 16), Julius Gonzales (bronze medal 6.5 points/9 Open 8), Jedara Docena (bronze medal 6 points/9 Open 20), Akiko Chairmaine and Mikee Chairmaine Suede (bronze medal 6/9 Open 16) and Mira Mirano (bronze medal 6/8 Open 12).
Two more divisions (rapid and blitz) at stakes in this World Chess Federation (FIDE) annual tournament.
