MAZON RULES GUINNESS WORLD SERIES OF POOL; POCKETS $40,000

GIANT-KILLER Jundel Mazon of the Philippines defeated former world ten-ball champion Darren Appleton of Great Britain,8-6, in the semi-final round then subdued Irsal Nasution of Indonesia 10-5, in the final round to emerge over-all champion in the just concluded 2010 Guinness World Series of Pool – 10Ball Challenge at the Mal Taman Aggrek in Jakarta, Indonesia on Sunday.

“I congratulate you Jano (Jundel Mazon) for winning this tough and prestigious Guinness World Series of Pool ,” said Negros Billiards Stable (NBS) head coach Christopher Palses during the awarding ceremony witnessed by a jampacked crowd. “You are a hero of our nation (Philippines) and we are very proud of you.”

Against the local hero Nasution, the Indonesia lone hopeful taking a 5-1 commanding lead but the figthing spirit of the Pinoy campaigner never give up winning nine straight racks to enroute 10-5 victory.

” I would like to thank coach Toper (Christopher Palses), who personally watch my game here in Jakarta,” said Mazon, fondly called Jano in local pool who also scored a come-from-behind win against Appleton who jumped an early 4-1 lead before Mazon rallied in the middle part of the game.

Nasution, who eliminated former 9-ball and 8-ball champion Ronato Alcano of the Philippines in the quarter-final round on Saturday brought downed 2007 Guinness 9-ball tour champion Chang Jung-lin of Chinese-Taipei, 8-2. in another final four match-up.

Mazon, whose trip here in Jakarta supported by NBS received the top prize of US$40,000.
