JOSE, BALQUIN SHARES TOP HONOR IN BUKIDNON CHESS TOURNEY

VETERAN campaigners Brian Jose and Johnnel Balquin share the top honor in the 2010 Kaamulan Open chess tournament in Malaybalay City, Bukidnon.

Jose and Balquin, one of the finest woodpushers from Cagayan de Oro City tallied indentical 6.5 points apiece after seven games of play to equally divide among themselves the combined purses of P9,000 for first and second places.

Fellow Kagay-anon National Master Levi Mercado, reigning 2009 Jaraula Cup champion settled for third with 6 points.

Cagayan de Oro players also bagged P5,000 in a five-board contest with Malaybalay’s best talents, to cap the two-day chessfest highlighting the grandiose festivity of Bukidnon’s main land.
