JD MOJE TOPS MERALCO CHESS CLUB TOURNEY

JD MOJE of Intergrated School of Montessori, Marilao, Bulacan turned back Jared Tan of Victory Christian School in Pasig after 29 moves of Sicilian Rosolimo using the white pieces in the fifth and final round to emerged over-all champion in the just ended 13th leg of Meralco Chess Club Chess Championship, which ended Thursday at the Meralco headquarters in Lopez Canteen, Building, Ortigas, Pasig City.

The 12-year-old Moje scored 4.5 points in five outings on account of four wins and a draw enroute the coveted chess title plus the gold medal courtesy of Meralco Chess Club and Good Samaritans of Meralco.

” The Meralco Chess Club Tourney was started last December with GM Bong Villamayor and other chess masters handled the said event.The participants are mostly children of MERALCO employees but we regularly invite kids from public schools whose fees are sponsored by the so-called Good Samaritans of MERALCO; just to share thier blessings and help keep these promising kids off the streets.”said Meralco Chess Club president Rolly “Sol” Cruz.

Moje also beat Phillip Grant Buhat, Axel and Aleksei Fernandez before settling a draw with lone female entry Jonalyn Abajon in the fourth and penultimate round.

Three players was tied at 2nd to 4th placers—Buhat, Abajon and Joshua Tan, however after the tie break points was applied, Buhat pocketed the silver medal while Abajon went home the bronze medal.
Rounding up to the top 11 placers were Jared Tan, Narcisco Gravillo Jr., Aaron Aguado, Aleksei, Axel, Adriel and Andrei Fernandez.
