AFTER beating GM Buenaventura “Bong” Villamayor, untitled Jony Habla failed to sustain his giant killing ways losing to GM Mark Paragua in the seventh round of 2nd Subic International Open Chess Championship yesterday in Subic.
The former child prodigy Paragua raised his total 4.5 points to shared 11th to 21st placers in the company of countryman GM Darwin Laylo and Cebuano IM Richard Bitoon who split the point against Chinese IM Yang Kaiqi and Indian GM Surya Sekhar Ganguly.
Meanwhile, Iranian GM Ghaem Ehsan Maghami defeated Vietnamese GM Dao Thien Hai to grabs the solo leadership board with 6.0 points, half point ahead with Bangladesh GM Ziaur Rahman and Indian GM Chanda Sandipan who totes 5.5 points each.
