UNHERALDED Gerald Cavan settled a draw with veteran campaigner Reynaldo Quinonez in the seventh and final round to emerged over-all champion at the conclusion of 2008 Mayor Duterte and Inday Sara Duterte dubbed as Pahalipay Chess Tournament at the Gaisano South Citimall in Davao City, recently.
Cavan garnered unbeaten record of six wins and a draw to raise his total 6.5 points in seven outings, organized by James Infiesto, the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) region XI coordinator and assisted by NM Prospero Cruz.
National Masters Elwin Retanal, Henry Lopez and Cedric Magno was tied at 2nd to 4th placers with 6.0 points each.
Quinonez, meanwhile settled fifth to 8th placers together with Vincent Umayan, Rodrigo Catayas, and Jayson Salubre with identical 5.5 points apiece.
