(Photo caption): Austrian pool wiz Jasmin Ouschan is one of the favorites in the Women’s World 10-Ball Championship the Philippines will host next month.
Great Britain’s Allison Fisher and Austria’s Jasmin Ouschan will lead the brightest stars from Europe competing in the forthcoming Women’s World 10-Ball Championship slated on June 2 to 6 at SM City North Edsa in Quezon City .
The two are among the seeded players to the 48-man main draw in the historic event produced by Dragon Promotions supported by JBETpoker.net, ABS-CBN, Bugsy Promotions and sanctioned by the Billiards Managers and Players Association of the Philippines (BMPAP) and Billiards and Snooker Congress of the Philippines (BSCP)..
Fisher is considered to be the greatest female billiards player ever in history by most experts, winning 72 world class titles.
Fisher has been dominant for a decade with falling out of the #1 or #2 spot only once in 10 years. She has also taken down top men pros such as USA Champion Johnny Archer, Hall of Famer Allen Hopkins, and former US Open Champion Tommy Kennedy.
If Fisher is already an institution in women’s pool, Ouschan is its top rising star.
The 22 year old pool wizard from Austria rose to prominence after winning the gold medal in the World Games four years ago. She has since won many major titles in her budding career.
Ouschan also has had a good record against top men players including wins over World Champion Mika Immonen and Oliver Ortmann. Ouschan holds the record for highest finish by a woman in a major men’s event by placing 3rd at the 2008 World Straight Pool Championship.
Other top favorites from the west include 2008 Women’s Player of the Year Kelly Fisher (England), Gerda Hofstatter (Austria), Spanish Champion Amalia Matas, and former #1 Karen Corr (Ireland). Corr for many years was considered to be Allison’s Fisher only real rival on the women’s tour.
Other countries represented will be Czechoslovakia ’s Veronika Hubrtova, former European Champion Laetitia Dos Santos of France, Janine Schwan of Germany , and Tamara Trademakers of Netherlands .
The Philippines will be bannered by 2007 Women’s World 9-Ball runner-up Rubilen Amit and last year’s US Open second-placer Iris Ranola.
The Women’s World 10-Ball Championship is considered to be the biggest women’s sporting event of the year for the Philippines , and will have massive media attention including 25 hours of live coverage on ABS-CBN, the leading TV channel of the Philippines .
The participating cue artists will be vying for the prestigious crown along with the lion’s share of $20,000 out of the total pot pot $75,000 at stake.
Open qualifiers for the event will be held May 31 and June 1 in Manila . May 31 location will be set soon while June 1 will be set at SM Mall North Edsa. All players are welcomed to join to try to qualify for the event. There will be three qualifiers over the two days with three winners entered into the main 48 women field.
