FEU WOODPUSHERS READY FOR BATTLE IN CHED NATIONAL FINALS CHESS TODAY

FAR EASTERN UNIVERSITY (FEU) are ready for battle in the 64 square boards when the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) National Finals chess team tournament gets underway today at the Rizal Technological University (RTU) in Mandaluyong City.

RTU president Dr. Jose Macaballug, two-time Olympian GM Jayson Gonzales and other local officials are schedule to do the opening rites at 9 am.

The Tamaraw under the tutelage of two-time Olympian GM Jayson Gonzales topped the National Capital Region CHED qualification chess team tournament at the Manila Business College in Sta. Cruz, Manila, both men’s and women’s divisions.

The Tamaraw which is composed of board 1 gold medallist Lyndon Sombilon, Sheider Nebato , Luffe Magdalaga, board 4 gold medallist Antonio Chavez Jr. and board 5 gold medallist Kevin Mirano tallied a total 14 points to captured the men’s title in the single round-robin format.

The Lady Tamaraw comprises by 2006 Doha Asian Games bet WNM Jedara Docena, Rulp Ylem Jose, Jenny Rose Palomo, Ronna Reigner Senora and Lovelyn Medina dominated the distaff side after beating thrice New Era University.

Aside from NCR delegation, representative from Region 1 to 17 will take a part in this week-long event.

“I’m very confident na magbibigay ng magandang laban ang mga player natin,” said Gonzales.

The men’s team is virtually champion in the 72nd season of UAAP men’s competitions despite one round to go while the women’s team leading 2.5 points against her closest rival Ateneo de Manila University.
