CEBUANA POOL SENSATION AMIT BEATS TAIWANESE LIU; 2009 WOMEN’S WORLD TEN BALL CHAMPION EARNS US$20,000

MANILA, Philippines—CEBUANA pool sensation Rubilen Amit edged eight-time Japanese women’s “Player of the Year” Akimi Kajitani, 9-8, in the semi-final round then subdued Taiwanese Shin Mei-Liu, 10-4, in the finals to put her name in the international billiard map as the greatest world women billiards player after topping the just concluded 2009 Women’s World Ten Ball Championship here at the SM North Edsa in Quezon City.

The 27-year-old Amit, the top women player of RP God Father Aristeo “Putch” Puyat coming back from an 8-6 deficit to win the last three racks for a nerve-wracking 9-8 triumph over Kajitani in the final four won the top prize money of US$20,000 on Sunday.
““I won because of you.” referring the 2007 Amway World Women’s 9-Ball Championship in Chinese-Taipei to the Filipino fans and supporter.
The multiple Southeast Asian games gold medallist Amit who bowed to World No.1 Kelly Fischer in the opening round 5-1 bounce back in contention by demolishing  Julie Kelly of Ireland 8-4 and Hsiang Ling Tan of Chinese-Taipei 8-3 in the knockout phase  before stunning “The Black Widow” Jeanette Lee 9-8 in the quarter finals on the roads to the final four.
