Eight year after engaging Efren “Bata” Reyes in an intriguing battle of sexes, Jeanette “The Black Widow” Lee will be back in the country to lead the talented cast of lady pool masters from the United States seeing action in the historic Women’s World 10-Ball Championship slated on June 2 to 6 at the SM City North Edsa in Quezon City.
It was in 2001 when Lee battled Reyes in a much-publicized duel. Reyes handily won the match, but Lee earned the admiration of the Filipinos for her wit and stunning looks.
The former top-ranked player in women’s pro tour and currently the no.3 woman cue artist in the world will be joined by other top names from the US in the likes of US will be former USA Junior Champion and now top pro Sarah Rousey, Melissa Little, Angel Paglia, Tina Meraglio, Jeannie Seaver, and Kim Jones in competing in this prestigious event organized by Dragon Promotions.
Seaver is a Filipina-American rising star, who ruled the qualifying tournament in Orlando, Florida to become one of the 48 players in the main draw of this biggest sporting event for women in the Philippines this year, which is supported by JBETpoker.net, ABS-CBN, SM Mall North Edsa, Magic 89.9, Predator Cues, The Philippine Star, Bugsy Promotions, recognized by the BMPAP and BSCP.
The 38-year-old Lee, who was born in Brooklyn, New York to Korean parents, is nicknamed “Black Widow” for her tendency to wear all-black in all her pool matches.
Lee, who started playing pool at age 18, went on to rank as the no.1 female pool player in the world during the 1990s, and received the Women’s Professional Billiard Association (WPBA) Sportsperson of the Year Award in 1998.
In addition to many top finishes on the WPBA Tour, she brought home the gold medal for the USA at the 2001 World Games in Akita, Japan, and won the ladies’ US$25,000 winner-take-all Tournament of Champions twice in 1999 and 2003.
She also authored The Black Widow’s Guide to Killer Pool.
A total of $75,000 cash prize is at stake in this event, which will run under the theme “billiards, the sport of the Philippines, the sport of the people” and sanctioned by the World Pool and Billiard Association.
Open qualifiers for the event will be held May 31 and June 1 at Paeng’s Skybowl on 4th Floor at Robinsons Galleria Mall connected to the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Manila.
There will be three qualifiers over the two days with six winners entered into the main 48 women field.
