BERSAMINA, DOCENA, MARCOS HEADLINE IN 1ST STUDENT CHESS OLYMPICS

REIGNING Philippine age-group champion Paulo Bersamina and 2007 Asean Age group silver medalist Jerad Docena of Pasay City, Jett and JV Cadawas-Marcos of Cainta, Rizal lead the youth star quest for honors in the 1st Student Chess Olympics ’09 gets underway on Sunday (November 22) at the SM Megamall A – 2nd Floor Showcase Area in Mandaluyong City.

Other player’s who signified their intention to play are Haince Patrick de Leon of Marist Schoolof Marikina, Judith Pineda of Olongapo City National High School, Rhal Sol Cruz of La Salle Greenhills, Renato Cruz of Taytay National High School, Christian Anthony Flores of Manila Science High School, Aira Infante and Arvie Lozano of Rizal Technological University, Alexis Anne Osena of De La Salle-Lipa and Daryl Samantilla and Karen Enriquez of Adamson University, among others.

National Master Roland Joseph Perez, member of the organizing committee said that the one-day event is open to all untitled-players ages between 5 and 21 year old who must bring their school I.D. and copy of birth cert on
November 22, in the 7-Round Active Swiss for each category (College,
Secondary, Elementary) format will be applied.

The College division (21 years old and below) gets the lion share of P6,000 +Medals; the runner-up pockets P3,000 +Medals; third placer gets P2,000 +Medals; fourth placers will be receive P1,000 and fifth placer
awaits P500.

In the High school division (17 years old and below); the champion will bring home P5,000 +Medals; the runner-up pockets P3,000 +Medals; third placer gets P2,000 +Medals; fourth placers will be receive P1,000 and fifth placer awaits P500.

In the Grade School division (13 years old and below); the champion gets P4,000 +Medals; the runner-up gets P3,000 +Medals; third placer gets P2,000 +Medals; fourth placer will be receive P1,000 and fifth placer gets P500.
