BERNARDINO, CASTELLANO TO HOLD SIMUL CHESS IN MERALCO ANTIPOLO

RP and United States Chess master Almario Marlon Bernardino Jr., and Fide Master Christopher Castellano will hold simultaneous chess exhibition on September 6, Sunday, 8 am at the Meralco Management Leadership Development Center (MMLDC) Km 27 Sumulong Hi-way, Antipolo City (infront of Assumption School, Antipolo campus).
The Quezon City native Bernardino, a radio commentator and sportswriter along with Philippine Airforce bet NM Ronald Llavanes share the limelight after both winning the 7th leg of the 2009 Philweb–Human Plus National Executive Grand Prix Active Chess Championships, Group A division last week at the Human Resources Conference Room, Dept. of Agrarian Reform, Elliptical Road, Quezon Memorial Circle, Quezon City.
The Cainta, Rizal pride Castellano, a Music Instructor/ Tenor, is a qualifier for this year’s Asian Indoor Games qualifying tournament (grand finals) on September 9 at the LWUA head office in Balara, Quezon City.
The event is sponsored by MMLDC Foundation, Inc, through Ms. Agnes Fidelino, Managing Director, as part of their 10th year anniversary celebration and sharing with the community and thus, registration is free. MMLDC Foundation specializes in providing training solutions within a total learning ambiance. The tournament is also supported by MERALCO Marikina Business Center Head Tere Estrada, MERALCO Cainta Business Center Head Ed Vargas, MERALCO Angono Business Center Head Winston delos Reyes, MERALCO Worker’s Association, UST Alumni of MERALCO, Hernandez Customs Brokerage, 2009 RP 12 Under Champ Paulo Bersamina, and Casiano Sol Cruz Sr & Jr Foundation.
After the simultaneous chess exhibition, the country’s future chess stars take center stage when the 1st MMLDC Chess Cup for kiddies (14 years old and below) gets underway on Sunday.
Prizes are broken down as follows: Champion - P1,500 plus medal, 2nd Place - P1,000 plus medal, 3rd Place - P 500 plus medal, 4th to 10th - P 200.Special Prizes: St. Teresa of Avila Award for Top Player with an accompanying mother of Grandmother, St. Charles of Borromeo Award with an accompanying father or Grandfather, Best Player of Cainta, Best Player of Marikina, Best Player of Angono and Top Player in 8, 10 and 12 Age Brackets.
