YOUNG Filipino grandmaster campaigner Wesley So (2644) settled for another draw this time at the hands of top seed Russian GM Dmitry Andreikin (2659) in just 17 moves of a Caro-kann defense transposition game in the fifth round of Susan Polgar Institute Chess for Excellence (SPICE) Cup Chess Championship yesterday at the Texas Tech University in Lubbock Texas, USA.
The 15-year-old Bacoor, Cavite kid now has 2 points on four draw and a loss in five outings.
So, who is aiming to break the 2700 Elo mark in this six player’s invitational tournament opened his campaign into a draw over Ukrainian GM Yuriy Kuzubov (2636) in the first round , yielded to Norwegian GM Jon Ludvig Hammer (2585) in the second round, halved the point with last year’s SPICE Cup co-champ American GM Varuzhan Akobian (2636) in the third round, also drew with Azerbaijan Grandmaster Rauf Mamedov (2626) in the fourth round before his fifth round match also ended into a draw against Andreikin.

In other results, Mamedov split the point with Hammer after 28 moves of Trompovsky Opening event the game of Akobian and Kuzubov ended into a draw after 57 moves of Nimzo-Indian defense.
