AMIT LEADS RP CHARGE IN WOMEN’S WORLD 10-BALL

She maybe lacking in international exposure as compared to most of the lady cue artists competing in the JBETpoker.net Women’s World 10-Ball Championship but Rubilen Amit is confident she can make waves and hopefully win the prestigious event that unfurls tomorrow at the SM City North Edsa in Quezon City.

“I believe I have what it takes to win it as I’ve been preparing hard since it was announced that it will be held here in our country,” said the 27-year-old Cebuana, who was the runner-up in the 2007 Women’s World 9-Ball Championship.

“Even if I’m not competing in tournaments abroad, I still get good exposures here in the Philippines by participating in tournaments like the Villar Cup, where I compete against top Filipino players, who are among the best players in the world,” added the stalwart of Puyat Sports of Philippine billiards godfather Aristeo “Putch” Puyat. She is being mentored by long-time national coach Boyet Asonto.

Amit will banner the host country’s campaign, along with 2008 WPBA Rookie of the Year Iris Ranola.

The two hope that more Filipina cue artists, like their fellow national team mainstay Mar Basas would make it to the main draw of this historic event organized Dragon Promotions in cooperation with JBETpoker.net, ABS-CBN, SM Mall North Edsa, Magic 89.9, Predator Cues, Min Billiard Cloth, Puyat Sports, Philippines Star, Bugsy Promotions and recognized by the BMPAP and BSCP.

A total of 48 players from around the world will vie in the five-day tournament, where aside from the prestigious gold medal, a pot of $75,000 cash prize will be up for grabs, including a lion’s share of $20,000 to the winner.
