ABELGAS, BERSAMINA RULES PANAGBENGA CHESS CUP

JOURNEYMAN Roel Abelgas and the country’s reigning 12-Under prince Paulo Bersamina ruled their respective division in the just concluded 13th Baguio Center Mall Non-Master Chess Tournament “Panagbenga Cup” in Baguio City.
Abelgas, the pride of Cavite edged Richilieu Salcedo of CDO and John Ranel Morazo of Tarlac to bring home the championship trophy and the P7,000 cash prize in the non-masters open division. Morazo and Salcedo ranked second and third, respectively.
Notably, the 12-year old Bersamina, the pride of Meralco Chess Club stamped his class by sweeping all his opponents in seven rounds to finish the event with a perfect score of 7/7 and bagged the championship trophy and the P5,000 cash prize in the kiddies group.
Heirry Manaloto of Paniqui, Tarlac (2nd palce) and Shciart Dale Ancheta of Baguio City (3rd place) accompanied Bersamina of Pasay City in the Top 3.
