“BATA”, “AMANG” BOUNCED BACK IN US OPEN 10-BALL

FILIPINO billiards masters Efren “Bata” Reyes and Jose “Amang” Parica toppled their respective rivals in the loser’s brackets to bounced back in contention in the on-going
2010 US Open 10-ball championship at the Riviera Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas Nevada, USA yesterday, (Late Wednesday in US Time).
Reyes beat James Baraks (9-5) while Parica edged Beau Runningen (9-7), both from the host country.
The other day, Reyes lost to compatriot Roberto “Pinoy Superman” Gomez (6-9) in the second round of winner’s brackets while Parica lost via default against Sarah Rousey of the USA in the opening round.
The true double elimination, winner’s break format offers a total pot prize of US $ 89,000 with the champion getting the lion share of US $ 20,000.
The runner-up to fourth placer gets US$12,500, US$8,500 and US$ 5,700, respectively.
RP billiards spokesman Ramon “Maestro Monching” Mistica, who is best to remember beating Parica in the mid 80’s said that the winner’s brackets encounter will resume today.
The 3rd round of Winner’s bracket pitted Al Lapena vs Mike Dechaine, Lee Vann Corteza vs Francis Crevier, Edwin Montal vs Francisco Bustamante, Stan Tourangeau vs Dennis Orcullo, Jason Klatt vs Roberto Gomez, Ronnie Alcano vs Thomas Engert and Warren Kiamco vs Ralf Souquet.
” I think we have a good chances to win considering our top pool players dominating in the international event in the past,” said sportsman/ businessman Aristeo “Putch” Puyat, ealier, acknowledged God Father of Philippine Billiards.
