‘BATA’ STUNS ‘MIKA’ PACES RP ROMP IN US 10-BALL TOURNEY

HALL OF FAMER Efren “Bata” Reyes made quick work of 2-time US Open Champion and 2009 Player of the Year Mika “The Iceman” Immonen of Finland, 9-1, Saturday (Manila Times) to lead the march of Filipino bets in the 1st Annual Hard Times-Mezz Cues 10-Ball Open at the legendary Hard Times Billiards in Bellflower, Los Angeles California, USA.
The 1999 WPA World 9-Ball Champion and 2005 WPA World 8-Ball Champion Reyes, the prize fighter of sportsman/ businessman Aristeo “Putch” Puyat won his first match against Melinda Huang, 9-5.
Immonen, on the other hand is the reigning World Ten-Ball Champion.
“It’s a good start, we expect our top players, led by Efren (Reyes) and Lee Vann (Corteza), to play well in the US 10-ball tournament,” said RP billiards God Father Aristeo “Putch” Puyat.
2009 World Ten-Ball Finalist Lee Vann “The Slayer” Corteza, 2007 World 9-Ball Finalist Roberto “Pinoy Superman” Gomez, Japan Champion Warren “Warrior” Kiamco and veteran campaigner Ramon “Maestro Monching” Mistica also scored impressive victories.
Corteza, the top player of Jonathan Sy’s Negros Billiards Stable blanked Steve Chaplin, 9-0, and routed Ismael Paez, 9-1.
Gomez, playing under the banner of Perry Mariano’s Bugsy Promotions clobbered Ezekiel Morrison, 9-4, Kiamco from Negros Billiards Stable nipped Marcos Rodriguez, 9-5, while Mistica, who is best to remember by beating Filipino pool legend Jose “Amang” Parica in the mid 80’s dealt Chris Tate, 9-2, and Abe Lim, 9-2, respectively.
